An Iranian judiciary officer, whips, Mohammed Bijeh, convicted of raping and murdering 16 children, before he was hanged, in public in Pakdasht, Iran a town outside the capital Tehran, Wednesday, March 16, 2005. (AP Photo/Vahid Salemi)

In 'democratic' countries he'd have been put in jail at the expense of the state for the rest of his life, or sat on 'death row' for years. Its a pretty brutal way to go, but EVERYONE dies in the end so why prolong the inevitable for this guy. Sat 19-Mar-2005 22:22

I'm glad I don't live in Iran. He may have been a monster, but this savagery is at least as bad as what he did, and none of his victims will be brought back by any of this. Sun 20-Mar-2005 22:49

Dear Mr. Jon E(vil) I know by democratic countries you don't mean United States. Because here in the US , we do practice capital punishment in fact more than Iran and less than Saudi Arabia. Mon 21-Mar-2005 05:00

To civilised Anon I have to say I am glad I am not an American becaue they seem to be the only ones who creat torture chambers like Abu Gharib. Tue 22-Mar-2005 04:43

to those "civilized" and those "humanitarians": what would your brain produce if the martirized body of your lovely eight years old child is returned to you with the cutted throat? would you be able to sleep at night? Wed 23-Mar-2005 13:32

if he had to executed it should have been done in privacy, for some there it was a sick entertaiment like the arena, the fact he did cry out and stayed calm suggests he was either mad or resigined to his fate, the flogging however u excuse it demmeaned everyone conected with it Thu 24-Mar-2005 17:28

there are many disturbing aspects to this case, why the closed court, why the lighter sentence for bijehs accomplice, how were thse guys evaluated for sanity, then therre are the rumours about this being a sale of human organs conspirecy, which is why the police involvement is amibivalent, then ther is the self immolation and stoicismof bijeh himself, during the execution process he remined calm and silent despite being whipped to his knees and the beying crowd, most gus would have been reduced to hysteria was he drugged, after the beating he semed to surmontthe pain and compose himself to walk to the noose uniaded even as the noose tightens he remains passive, either he had super human fortitud or he was drugged whatever he retrived sme dignity despite his alleged crimes while the crowd and his tortures lost theirs Thu 28-Apr-2005 08:32

i think this kind of punishment( in public) is the best way to stop these crimes from happen again.if not, people will not be scared to do it. Fri 20-May-2005 04:48

this will be a lesson to murderers and murderers to be. only the relatives and father/mother of the children bijeh's had killed could have forgive him and let him loose. this is only earthly punishment.. and yess.. u wont find this kind of sentence being carried out in America..cause they keep it a hush-hush thing.. just look at their movies, u couldnt even think of all those kind of tortures/punishments to any human beings except if u r in America of course. I live in the usa. You do any contract work on pervert reform? We've got some real serious perverts who could benefit from taking part in your ultimate reform program. I'm surprised you guys haven't gotten a grant from the ford foundation to see how may repeat offenders come out of you "solution." I'm an ex prison screw (guard). This type of crim makes my gut boil! If our political correct softies were half as firm as yours there would be a few more nice kids breathing clean air and who would know, maybe bringing our two nations back together on the right-hand path.

I guess it would be hard to think and judge instead of the mothers and fathers who had lost their beloved ones in this tragedy ,though i never been agree with punishment in public ,yet i guess this special case (bije) was so awful that i myself agree with it ,SO THAT NO ONE EVER SHOULD DO THIS WITH CHILDREN Fri 29-Jul-2005 15:51

why does it always have to get back to wat happens in the usa, its the beahavoir of iran thats under scrutinythe trial of bijeh had many curios aspects in cluding a suggestion of police colusion in organ transplants bijeh looks like the scape goat in a wider crime, the whiiping of him half naked and the hanging before a baying crowd was horrendouus another aspect of of this was his apparent stocism never crying out or begging for mercy was he drugged and for wat reason, alow this to take place and u lead on to the two gay teenagers who were whipped and hung more recently,no stoicicm there the kids broke down begged for forgiveness only managing to gather themselves at the moment of execution all this before a cheering crowd wat sort of regime is what sort of people Wed 3-Aug-2005 11:44

IT IS BARBARIC. WHAT IS DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE CRIMINALS WHO KILLED THE INNOCENT AND A GOVERNMENT WHO WHIPS AND MURDERS ITS NAITONS. IRAN LIKE ANY OTHER THIRD WORLD COUNTRY IS SO MANY CENTURIES AWAY FROM BANNING EXECUTION BECAUSE THEY DO NOT GIVE ANY VALUE TO LIFE Mon 8-Aug-2005 07:30

I think all of you guys are a little bid confused about this because normally as the level of intensity in a society goes up the gov's need more of this inhuman stuff. i.e. Iran, US, etc Wed 21-Sep-2005 20:39

Excecution is an 'Evil' Act, Government did not give him a life . . . Government has no right what so EVER to take the criminal's lives. the should be jailed and off the streets. we're not living in Saudi-Arabia, that's ridiculous. Mon 31-Mar-2008 18:29

He was truly a monster and showed no mercy to the children he killed. There are many here in the UK who would like to see the return of the death penalty. Those who preach about his rights should stop and consider the rights of his victims. They have none now, thanks to him! Tue 13-Jan-2009 12:11
